Silverlake Canopy Bed

Silverlake Canopy Bed

I was just a laborer on this project- I brought the tools, a tape measure and a pencil.

This beautiful Canopy Bed was designed by the very talented Ms. Jackie Honikman-with an assist from her famous dog, Frankie (also pictured wearing my Fedora).    A Canopy Bed is a fun project-and we did this inexpensively and in the end turned her old bed into the picture above.   It was a fun weekend project.

Ms. Honikman also created this beautiful website for me. read more…

Preparing For Twins in Los Feliz-Nursery Closet Organization

Preparing For Twins in Los Feliz-Nursery Closet Organization

June 15, 2011 in Latest Projects - leave a reply

This client received the happy news that she was pregnant-with twins!   I installed this closet kit around the existing shelving that was already there.   An interesting note on the final pictures-the closet bars on the right are longer than the closet bars on the left.  That is because she is having a boy and a girl-and we all know that little girls need more space than boys for dresses and outfits!  Closet organization is a key for any family-it keeps everything visible and in its place-in a nursery with twins I imagine the need to keep everything organized must be even more important.   read more…

Evening Veranda Overlooking Echo Park

Evening Veranda Overlooking Echo Park

We had quite a bit of rain here last week-and even in LA when it rains it pours-unfortunately in through my clients French Doors and onto her dining room floor.  My clients wish was to protect her interior dining room from more rain damage while at the same time hoping to add a structure to complement this exterior space.   This clear roof above the French Doors adds style to the Veranda.  My favorite part of this was building the cedar garden boxes around the 4 x 4 post read more…

A white Picket Fence

A white Picket Fence

There are nice jobs to get as a Handyman / Carpenter / Flyfisherman and building a fence is one of them- Robert Frost had a good point when he said that good fences make good neighbors.   Everyone in America deserves a white picket fence-its part of the American dream.    The toughest part of this project was digging 31 holes in the ground 3 feet deep with a 10 inch diameter-I have even more respect now for gophers-which of course was already strong from “Caddyshack.”   read more…

Custom Made Red Brick Mailbox

I built this mailbox over a three day period.  The client had a problem with his mailboxes failing down strangely enough.  I promised him this one would not.  This mailbox was a lot of fun-very easy work that takes quite a few steps but when you are done it is real pretty to look at.   read more…

Poolside Pergola

Poolside Pergola

This Pergola was rebuilt on the side of the house next to the clients pool in Valley Village. There was extensive termite and water damage to the upper part of the original structure. I was able to rebuild it while keeping the columns (which were not damaged)-and adding three exterior fans to cool the space in the summer.  I added more laths on the top so that there would be more protection from the sun as well.   You should always use redwood or cedar as a building material out west to protect from termites and water damage.

Country Kitchen Desk & Shelves

Country Kitchen Desk & Shelves

September 17, 2010 in Bookcases, Latest Projects - leave a reply

This client had twins under 2 who had a playroom off the kitchen.  She wanted a small desk built so that she could
keep an eye on the kids as well as pursue her other passion-cooking.  She was able to do both while working as a writer as well.  The shelves above the desk she filled with pottery so that it blended in well with the kitchen decor.  She promised me she would get a laptop so that the tower (and all those wires) would disappear.
