This beautiful Canopy Bed was designed by the very talented Ms. Jackie Honikman-with an assist from her famous dog, Frankie (also pictured wearing my Fedora).    A Canopy Bed is a fun project-and we did this inexpensively and in the end turned her old bed into the picture above.   It was a fun weekend project.

]]> http://flyfishinghandyman.com/2011/06/preparing-for-twins-los-feliz-nursery-closet-organization/feed/ 0 Evening Veranda Overlooking Echo Park http://flyfishinghandyman.com/2010/10/evening-veranda-overlooking-elysian-park/ http://flyfishinghandyman.com/2010/10/evening-veranda-overlooking-elysian-park/#comments Thu, 14 Oct 2010 06:20:37 +0000 joel http://flyfishinghandyman.com/?p=678 read more…]]> We had quite a bit of rain here last week-and even in LA when it rains it pours-unfortunately in through my clients French Doors and onto her dining room floor.  My clients wish was to protect her interior dining room from more rain damage while at the same time hoping to add a structure to complement this exterior space.   This clear roof above the French Doors adds style to the Veranda.  My favorite part of this was building the cedar garden boxes around the 4 x 4 posts in which I planted a white potato vine-which should weave around the structure in a few months and always maintain the white blossoms.  Inside the house I had to sand the damaged floor down to re-stain and reseal it-but unfortunately with that much water damage the density of the red oak floorboards changed and the damage was still visible.   A solution could have been to spend a considerable amount of money to replace the hardwood floor of her dining room-or to spend $24 dollars in paint and a sponge to create a rustic style border over the repaired water damage-which would fit in with the rest of the decor in her home.  We chose the latter and it came out really well.

I have been working for these clients for a few years both small and large projects-but  sadly it seemed their beautiful little girl never really noticed me before.  After I built her this playhouse I became almost as famous as Elmo.  At least that is what I tell myself.
